Voting & Elections

Make your voice heard in school elections

Hellgate Elementary School District #4 voters elect the Board of Trustees and decide school levies. Here’s how to make sure you’re ready.

Who can vote?

You are eligible to vote in Hellgate Elementary school elections if:

  • You live within the boundaries of Hellgate Elementary School District #4, and
  • You are a registered Montana voter.

Not sure if you’re registered, or whether you live in the district? Check your status on My Voter Page from the Montana Secretary of State.

How to register

Regular voter registration in Montana closes 30 days before an election. You can register or update your registration by mail before then. After the regular deadline, late registration is available in person at the Missoula County Elections Office, up to and including Election Day.

How school elections work

Montana school elections are held in early May. Hellgate trustees serve staggered three-year terms, so two or three of the seven seats are on the ballot each year, sometimes alongside levy questions.

Hellgate’s elections are conducted by mail ballot. Ballots are mailed to registered voters about three weeks before Election Day and must be received, not postmarked, by Election Day. You can return yours by mail or at a drop-off location; on Election Day, drop-off sites have included a drive-thru at Hellgate Elementary. The district posts the details for each election.
